About Storytelling

Storytelling is one of humanity’s oldest art forms which connects people of all ages, diversities, and time periods to the human condition.  Many cultures passed down their history orally long before they had a written language.

Telling a story orally allows voice, facial expression, posture, and gesture to contribute to the tale in a way that written words can’t do on their own. Professional storytellers use original stories, or adapt folktales, myths, legends, or historical events, and then bring them to life through the oral telling.  Some storytellers use music, chants, costumes, props. Others use only their voice.

In our fast paced, media driven world, oral stories allow children and adults a way to unplug, to open our minds and hearts, and come away better for it.  Spoken words are powerful.  Listening is learned.  The exchange between storyteller and story listener is entertainment. It is education. It is magic.
